3 Days of Chess

​​​In the summer of 2025, we were involved with '3 Days of Chess (3DC)' events in downtown Boston. '3DC' was a series of chess events consisting of two FREE chess workshops followed by a FREE chess tournament. All events were at the Civic Pavilion Hall, City Hall Plaza, Boston and were supported in part by a grant from the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture.

Presenters

A US Chess Federation titled player guided participants at each workshop. In 2025 the presenter was JP chess regular National Master Ryan Young.

Target Audience

3DC workshops were suitable for players who have mastered the basics of chess and are seeking to get to intermediate level. Suitable for those with ratings between 800 and 1,400. Adults and juniors ages 10 and up. The tournament was open to everyone with or without an official USCF rating.

Location

The Civic Pavilion at Boston City Hall Plaza, Downtown Boston. The closest T stop is Haymarket (Orange Line). You can also get off the T at Government Center (Green Line) and follow the signs to the Civic Pavilion. The Civic Pavilion is directly opposite Boston Public Market.​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Workshop Details, Dates & Times

Each workshop started on a Sunday at 2pm and lasted 1 to 1.5 hours followed by casual chess until 5pm.

August 10:  'End Games You Must Know' by NM Ryan Young

Tournament (Sunday, August 17, 2:00pm) 

The final day of the 3DC series was a FREE tournament, open to everyone, regardless of level. The tournament had both rated and unrated sections. For full results of the tournament see our blog entry here.
