5D Tournament
 

This FREE tournament is the final event in the series 'Five Days of Chess', a series of chess events made possible through a grant from the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture. The tournament is open to all chess players regardless of rating. Games are not rated.  The tournament is made possible through a grant from the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture. Note that the format of the tournament may change depending on the number of entrants.

Location:

Civic Pavilion, City Hall Plaza, Boston, MA (directly opposite Boston Public Market, on Government Center Side of Congress Street)

Time Controls:

Blitz, G/10 d0 (10 mins, no increment) 

Rounds

6 Rounds, 1 game per round (color determined by SWISS pairing system)

Pairings will be performed using SWIPS.eu on-line software, accessible via web browser

Schedule

1:30pm - Venue doors open 

1:45pm - Players must be present and inform tournament director of presence

1:50pm - Spots freed up (if players not present) and made available to others

2:00pm - Round 1

2:30pm - Round 2

3:00pm - Round 3

3:30pm - Round 4

4:00pm - Round 5

4:30pm - Round 6

5:00pm - Closure and Prize Giving

After each round each player should inform a tournament administrator of the board and score.

Rules

USCF Blitz rules will apply which include touch move and "taking of the king". Please read. No use of phones permitted during games.

Prizes (to be finalized)

No more than one prize per player. Positions are determined by score and modified median.

Top placed player overall - $50 Amazon Gift Card, Knight chess key ring

Top placed player in the 'Green category group' - individuals in the middle rated section - $50 Amazon Gift Card, Knight chess key ring

Top placed players in the 'Blue category group', individuals in the lowest rated section - $50 Amazon Gift Card, Knight chess key ring

Highest Placed Junior (under 18 as at August 6, 2023) - a one hour chess lesson from NM Ryan Young, Knight chess key ring

All juniors completing all six rounds - a chess key ring (pawn)

Safety

If you feel sick or have been in close contact with someone recently with COVID please do not attend the tournament. Please bring a mask and wear it if your opponent requests.
